Nadea Corkum watercolour artist

Meet the artist

Hi! I’m Nadea Corkum. I’m a Canadian self-taught watercolor artist based in Hong Kong.

What does self-taught even mean?

In my case, it simply means an artist with no formal instruction. I took inspiration from many on my watercolor journey, for whom I’m very grateful. I hope I have been able to develop a style all my own.

My story…

The first time I picked up a watercolor brush was in the summer of 2019 while on holiday in Northern Ireland. I bought my first set of watercolors, a pad of paper and I was in business.

I suppose there was a subconscious desire to learn to paint and then I found a book in a charity shop that had such simple instruction, I made up my mind to take the leap into the wonderful world of watercolor and bought the book! What can I say? It was life changing. I’ve scarcely missed a day of painting since!

I have always believed I couldn’t draw, much less paint anything. All my life I was completely convinced I didn’t have an artistic bone in my body. But since the beginning of my watercolor journey, I have learned that it’s never too late to learn something new! And it CAN be learned!!

Why did I choose watercolor, the most difficult of all mediums to control?

There are several reasons…

  • it’s translucent and vibrant

  • it’s unpredictable

  • it’s transportable

  • the clean-up is a breeze!

I built this site with the intention of sharing my love of all things watercolor. I am open to all forms of medium and am not averse to trying something new. I wanted to make my artwork available to others in my shop. I don’t know where this journey is going to take me, but I hope you will join me!
